My passion for oenology, the study of wines, began about 12 years ago when, for the first time, I participated in the annual “Ciacolando” - an enogastronomic stroll among the Breganze hills that takes place in May. This opportunity to sample the wines produced in our area, paired with traditional dishes, made me curious to learn more about the intriguing world of local gastronomy and absolutely everything about wine: from vine to glass. So, starting back in 2015, I took many courses and eventually became a sommelier and expert wine taster in 2018.
The most
fascinating aspect of this world emerges when, on recommending a bottle to
those with the curiosity to ask, you can share with them the history of that
wine, that winery and that terroir.
My suggestion for the festive season is to pair a great sparkling wine with your Christmas desserts. More specifically, go for an excellent Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze DOCG Dry. This wine is the maximum expression of a protected Cru, just 266 acres, located in the hills around Valdobbiadene, not far from Venice. Its nose and simplicity express the vocation of local growers who, over the centuries, have carefully tended the Cartizze pentagon: a very special hill on which the best Glera vines thrive.
Happy
holidays to one and all.
Cheers!
